Geothermal heat pumps provide efficient heating and cooling technologies that you can count on for years to come. There are several types of geothermal HVAC systems to choose from: closed-loop systems, vertical systems, and open-loop systems.

Closed-Loop Systems: antifreeze is circulated through a closed loop underground or in water. Heat is transferred between the antifreeze and the refrigerant in the heat pump. 

Vertical Systems: For installation, these systems require about four-inch-wide holes that are anywhere from 100-400 feet deep. Rest assured, they won’t disturb your landscape any more than a horizontal system would. They take up less space and are mostly used for multi-story housing or apartment complexes.

Open-Loop Systems: These systems require a constant supply of clean water to absorb heat from the water below the Earth’s surface.
